Cuando Cubango - Mining Project in Advanced Stage

Luanda — The Cuito and Cuchi Mining Project in southeastern Cuando Cubango province is in very advanced stageand with a good dynamics.

 
This was said Wednesday in Luanda by the minister of Geology and Mining , Francisco Queiroz.
 
The minister was speaking to journalists after attending the ordinary Joint Economy and Real Economy Commissions of the Cabinet Council, chaired by the head of State, Jose Eduardo dos Santos.
 
According to Francisco Queiroz, the mining project in the two above regions is estimated at about Usd 200 million and will use in the prospecting phase at least 300 workers, while in the exploration stage a 3,500 manpower will be employed.
 
He said the Project will entail deforestation and planting of 60,000 acres of eucalyptuses as iron production will involve coal and incinerators that will produce the iron bars which is the intermediate product in steel production.
 
According to the minister, the project will start next year and the site where the eucalyptuses will be planted has been identified and a 2000 acres pilot farm has been selected as preparation model.
 
As Francisco Queiros explained, the State will be represented in the project by the firm Ferrangol-EP, tasked with prospecting.
 
The minister further stated that the industrial facility for the production of coal will be set up early next year, with exploration expected for late in 2016 or early 2017.
 
A 2,300 metres airfield is also being built in Cuchi region as part of the project's supporting infrastructure, the minister also said.
 
He added that the Transport Ministry will also be involved to help sort out existing railroad constraints.
 
As to the Mining Project in the locality of Cerca, central Cuanza Norte province, Francisco Queiroz admitted some delay.
 
He said the licence for prospecting has been released, while in its exploration stage, the Usd 250-million project will employ 300 workers.
